Requirements<br />

7.10.1 Chip Liability Shift<br />

Effective 31 December 2015, the liability for Canada intraregional counterfeit<br />

Transactions in which one Customer (either the Issuer or the Acquirer) is not<br />

yet EMV-compliant will be borne by the non–EMV-compliant party in the<br />

Transaction process. The chip liability shift is implemented in chargeback<br />

reason code 70.<br />

7.12 Additional Requirements for ATMs<br />

The following replaces Chapter 7, “Acquiring,” Rule 7.12 (2) in part 1 of this<br />

rulebook:<br />

2. assign letter-number combinations as described in Rule 7.12 in part 1 of<br />

this rulebook.<br />

7.15 Requirements for Transaction Receipts<br />

7.15.6 PAN Truncation Requirements<br />

7.15.6.2 Terminals<br />

The following replaces Chapter 7, “Acquiring,” Rule 7.15.6.2, in part 1 of this<br />

rulebook:<br />

One (1) of the following options must be used:<br />

1. print the PAN on the receipt but truncate a minimum of any four (4) digits<br />

of the PAN. The Corporation strongly recommends that all truncated digits<br />

be replaced with fill characters that are neither blank spaces nor numeric<br />

characters, such as “x”, “*”, or “#”, or<br />

2. print the PAN on the receipt but render a minimum of any four (4) digits of<br />

the PAN indeterminable by any Corporation approved method.<br />

The Corporation strongly recommends that the receipt reflect only the last four<br />

(4) digits of the PAN, replacing all preceding digits with fill characters that are<br />

neither blank spaces nor numeric characters, such as “x”, “*”, or “#”.<br />

The receipt generated by newly installed, replaced, or relocated Terminals<br />

deployed on or after 1 April 2005 must reflect only the last four (4) digits of<br />

the PAN, replacing all preceding digits with fill characters that are neither blank<br />

spaces nor numeric characters, such as “x”, “*”, or “#”.<br />
