<strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass<br />

7.9 POS Terminal Requirements<br />

All eligible POS Terminals that utilize only <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass contactless payment<br />

functionality must:<br />

1. perform Transactions only after receiving authorization from the Issuer<br />

or the Chip Card;<br />

2. provide operating instructions in English as well as the local language;<br />

3. have a screen display that enables the Cardholder to view the data entered<br />

into the POS Terminal by that Cardholder, or the response received as the<br />

result of the Cardholder’s Transaction request. This data will include the<br />

application labels or preferred names on a multi-application Card, and the<br />

amount of the Transaction. Refer to Chapter 8, “Security,” for the security<br />

requirements;<br />

4. prevent additional Transactions from being entered into the system while<br />

a Transaction is being processed;<br />

5. perform the Transaction using the EMV chip;<br />

6. read and process all required <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass-related data from the EMV<br />

chip on the Card;<br />

7. comply with the acceptance requirements set forth in the <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass<br />

technical specifications, as published from time to time by the Corporation;<br />

8. meet the PayPass M/Chip certification requirements, excluding the PayPass<br />

magnetic stripe profile;<br />

9. have completed the Corporation’s prescribed certification process for the<br />

appropriate environment of use, including the certification of the Acquirer’s<br />

host interface;<br />

10. request a cryptogram for all <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass Transactions; if the Transaction<br />

is approved, transmit an application cryptogram and related data; and<br />

11. support both online and offline authorization.<br />

7.9.1 Card Reader<br />

POS Terminals that utilize only the <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass contactless payment<br />

functionality are not required to contain a magnetic stripe reader.<br />

7.9.2 Manual Key-Entry of PAN<br />

Transactions must not be performed if the chip on the Card cannot be read for<br />

any reason.<br />

7.9.3 PIN Entry Device<br />

POS Terminals that utilize only the <strong>Maestro</strong> PayPass contactless payment<br />

functionality are not required to contain a PIN entry device.<br />
