Control<br />

As used herein, Control has such meaning as the Corporation deems appropriate in its sole<br />

discretion given the context of the usage of the term and all facts and circumstances the<br />

Corporation deems appropriate to consider. As a general guideline, Control often means to have,<br />

alone or together with another entity or entities, direct, indirect, legal, or beneficial possession (by<br />

contract or otherwise) of the power to direct the management and policies of another entity.<br />

Corporation<br />

<strong>MasterCard</strong> International Incorporated, <strong>Maestro</strong> International Inc., and their subsidiaries and<br />

affiliates. As used herein, Corporation also means the President and Chief Executive Officer<br />

of <strong>MasterCard</strong> International Incorporated, or his or her designee, or such officer(s) or other<br />

employee(s) responsible for the administration and/or management of a program, service, product,<br />

system or other function. Unless otherwise set forth in the Standards, and subject to any restriction<br />

imposed by law or regulation or by the Board or by the <strong>MasterCard</strong> Incorporated Certificate of<br />

Incorporation or by the <strong>MasterCard</strong> International Incorporated Certificate of Incorporation (as<br />

each such Certificate of Incorporation may be amended from time to time), each such person is<br />

authorized to act on behalf of the Corporation and to so act in his or her sole discretion.<br />

Cross-border Transaction<br />

A Transaction that originates via a Point-of-Interaction (POI) Terminal located in a different country<br />

from the country in which the Card was issued.<br />

Customer<br />

An alternative term for Member. A Customer may be a Principal Member, an Affiliate Member, or<br />

an Acquiring-only Member.<br />

Customer Report<br />

Any report a Customer is required to provide the Corporation, whether on a one-time or repeated<br />

basis, pertaining to its License, Activities, use of any Mark, or any such matters. By way of example<br />

and not limitation, the Quarterly <strong>MasterCard</strong> Report (QMR) is a Customer Report.<br />

CVC 1<br />

See Card Validation Code.<br />

Data Storage Entity (DSE)<br />

A Service Provider that performs any one or more of the services described in Rule 14.1 of this<br />

rulebook as DSE Program Service.<br />
