9.5 Processing Requirements<br />

Acquirers and TPPs are discouraged from editing the transposition check digit.<br />

9.5.1 Track 1 Processing<br />

Acquirers and TPPs must not perform tests or edits on track 1 for the purpose<br />

of disqualifying Cards from eligibility for processing within the Corporation.<br />

9.5.2 PAN Processing<br />

Acquirers and TPPs must accept all PAN lengths in Cards when such PAN<br />

lengths are in compliance with Chapter 6, “Issuing,” of the <strong>Rules</strong>.<br />

Acquirers and TPPs must accept all valid major industry identifier numbers and<br />

IINs in Cards when such major industry identifier numbers and IINs are in<br />

compliance with Chapter 6, “Issuing,” of the <strong>Rules</strong>.<br />

9.5.3 Card Data Processing<br />

Acquirers and TPPs must accept all Card expiration and effective dates, as well<br />

as all Chip Card application effective dates, when dates are in compliance<br />

with Chapter 6, “Issuing,” of the <strong>Rules</strong>. Note: It is strongly recommended that<br />

these fields not be edited.<br />

Acquirers and TPPs are not required to act on the extended service codes at<br />

this time unless a value of 2 is present in position 1 for a <strong>Maestro</strong> payment<br />

application. The hybrid POS Terminal and hybrid Terminal must first attempt to<br />

process the Transaction as a chip Transaction. For additional information, refer<br />

to the <strong>MasterCard</strong> Authorization Manual.<br />

Acquirers and TPPs must accept all Card service code values, when such service<br />

code values are in compliance with Chapter 6, “Issuing,” of the <strong>Rules</strong>.<br />

Acquirers and TPPs must accept any character(s) in the discretionary data<br />

portion of Cards, when such discretionary data character(s) is in compliance<br />

with Chapter 6, “Issuing,” of the <strong>Rules</strong>.<br />

9.5.4 Chip Card Processing<br />

Acquirers must operate POS Terminals and Terminals that support chip<br />

technology in compliance with the technical specifications. Chip Transactions<br />

must be processed in accordance with the chip technical specifications as<br />

published from time to time by the Corporation.<br />
