7.25 Shared Deposits<br />

Acquirers must display a notice regarding funds availability in accordance with<br />

section 229.18(c) of Regulation CC, 12 C.F.R. § 229.18(c) on each Terminal that<br />

participates in the Shared Deposit service.<br />

7.25.4 Maximum Shared Deposit Amount<br />

The maximum Shared Deposit Transaction amount must be limited to USD<br />

99,999.99.<br />

7.25.5 Terminal Clearing<br />

An Acquirer that accepts Shared Deposits must clear its Terminals at least once<br />

each business day.<br />

7.25.6 Deposit Verification<br />

An Acquirer must process its Shared Deposits as follows:<br />

1. the Acquirer must complete an examination of each Shared Deposit no later<br />

than one (1) business day after the date of the Transaction;<br />

2. such examination must be conducted under dual control standards by:<br />

a. two (2) employees of the Acquirer; or<br />

b. one (1) or more employees of the Acquirer with a surveillance camera<br />

monitoring the examination<br />

3. the examination must consist of the following;<br />

a. the deposit must be verified to ensure that:<br />

• the dollar amount of the deposit keyed by the Cardholder at the<br />

Terminal matches the deposit contents<br />

• the deposit envelope is not empty; and<br />

• the deposit envelope does not contain only non-negotiable items<br />

b. the Acquirer must identify any irregularities that would make an item in<br />

the deposit envelope non-negotiable, such as:<br />

• the deposited currency is counterfeit;<br />

• the deposited currency, check or money order is in a denomination<br />

other than U.S. region currency;<br />

• the item is drawn on or payable by an institution located outside<br />

the U.S. region;<br />

• the item has a passbook attached;<br />

• the item is a photocopy;<br />
