7.4 Acquiring Electronic Commerce Transactions<br />

7.4.1 Acquirer Responsibilities: Electronic Commerce<br />

Transactions<br />

In addition to the requirements documented in <strong>Rules</strong> 7.1, 7.2 and 7.4,<br />

Acquirers must ensure that all Merchant sites that accept electronic commerce<br />

Transactions:<br />

1. clearly display the Marks on the Web site. The method and size used to<br />

display the Marks must be at least equal to the method and size used for<br />

displaying other payment marks, and must be in accordance with brand<br />

Standards;<br />

2. are capable of accepting PANs between thirteen (13) and nineteen (19)<br />

digits in length;<br />

3. support the passing of authentication data in the UCAF;<br />

4. support 3D Secure Merchant Plug-in, and are capable of handling<br />

Transactions within a 3D Secure environment;<br />

5. provide a set of “help” functions to help Cardholders that have not yet been<br />

enabled by their Issuers for transacting via the Internet;<br />

6. follow best practices in the display of price information, ensuring<br />

Cardholders can clearly identify the amount of currency of the Transactions<br />

that they are authorizing;<br />

7. display details of the timing of billing and fulfillment of Transactions.<br />

An Acquirer must provide each Merchant with a Merchant ID, and ensure that<br />

its Merchants correctly populate all UCAF fields with required data elements.<br />

On an on-going basis, the Acquirer must educate electronic commerce<br />

Merchants to ensure that they understand the special risks and responsibilities<br />

associated with accepting Transactions in an electronic environment. Refer<br />

to the <strong>MasterCard</strong> SecureCode Acquirer Implementation Guide for more<br />

information.<br />

NOTE<br />

7.4.1.1 Merchant Requirements: Electronic Commerce Transactions<br />

Each Merchant must:<br />

1. clearly display a mailing address, and a contact telephone number or<br />

2. e-mail address, for customer queries resulting from electronic commerce<br />

Transactions. This information may be displayed on any page within the<br />

Merchant’s Web site, but must be readily accessible to a Cardholder, and<br />
