Glossary<br />

A “Business Day” as defined in Regulation CC of the Board of Governors of<br />

the U.S. Federal Reserve System, 12 C.F.R. Pt. 229.<br />

cancel<br />

A Transaction initiated by the cardholder and/or Merchant to notify the Issuer<br />

by means of an online reversal that the Transaction authorization should<br />

be reversed. This Transaction may be initiated either before or after an<br />

authorization response is received by the Acquirer.<br />

Card acceptance or acceptor device (CAD)<br />

A hardware device (such as an ATM) used to capture and transmit payment<br />

card and that may be connected to a remote computer system; such as an<br />

Acquirer network, or may operate as a stand-alone device.<br />

Card authentication method (CAM)<br />

A procedure which takes place between a Card and the Terminal and/or Issuer<br />

to verify that the Card is genuine.<br />

cardholder-activated terminals (CAT)<br />

A cardholder-activated, chip or magnetic stripe-reading POS Terminal, (usually<br />

unattended) that dispenses a product or provides a service when activated<br />

by a Cardholder.<br />

card-to-card authentication (CCA)<br />

Card authentication as a result of interaction between two active Chip Cards:<br />

the Cardholder’s Card and the Merchant’s chip (which may be embedded in a<br />

removable Card or may be a permanent part of the POS Terminal), interacting<br />

via a passive terminal, without online contact to the Issuer. Both chips issue<br />

challenges to each other and verify the result.<br />

Cardholder verification method (CVM)<br />

A system or technology used to verify that the person presenting a Card is the<br />

authorized Cardholder.<br />

Card-read<br />

A Transaction authorized and settled electronically where full magnetic stripe or<br />

chip data is read by a Terminal and transmitted in its entirety to the Issuer.<br />

checking account (DDA)<br />

A demand deposit, negotiable order of withdrawal, share draft, or other<br />

transaction account which normally requires an Issuer to pay immediately upon<br />

proper presentation of a negotiable order to pay.<br />
