6.10 Selective Authorization<br />

response. Electronic commerce Transactions may be approved or<br />

declined only;<br />

d. process (that is, perform risk assessment) any Transaction for which<br />

the UCAF field (data element 48, sub-element 43) contains the<br />

Corporation-assigned static AAV;<br />

e. implement security techniques between the Cardholder interface device<br />

and the issuer server to guard against unauthorized Transactions.<br />

2. Issuers should:<br />

a. provide a registration and set up process for Cardholders wishing to<br />

perform electronic commerce Transactions;<br />

b. ensure that Cardholder authentication information is properly registered;<br />

c. properly identify Cardholders if issuing certificates;<br />

d. educate Cardholders of the risks of releasing Card details and PINs into<br />

open networks and entering PINs into public terminals without using<br />

the approved methods.<br />

3. Issuers may choose:<br />

a. to implement <strong>MasterCard</strong> SecureCode directly and register Cardholders<br />

or delegate a specific implementation and registration function to a<br />

designated service provider (according to the set-up requirements<br />

provided to the Corporation by the Issuer);<br />

b. to request the Cardholder to use a chip/hardware authentication device;<br />

c. the Cardholder verification method (if any) which is to be used.<br />

6.9.2 <strong>MasterCard</strong> Advance Registration Program (MARP)<br />

Transactions<br />

6.10 Selective Authorization<br />

Without the express prior written approval of the Corporation, a Customer<br />

may not launch or maintain a Card Program for the purpose of selectively<br />

authorizing Transactions arising from use of Program Cards at only a subset of<br />

<strong>Maestro</strong> acceptance locations. A Customer is not prohibited from authorizing or<br />

declining individual Transactions based on:<br />

1. the amount of funds or overdraft credit available;<br />

2. fraud risks presented by individual Cardholder usage patterns;<br />

3. cash access restrictions to manage a high risk Account;<br />
