PREFACE.
Of the words contained in the following pages, the vast majority were collected by
reading official and standard texts. The work as it stands was prepared under extreme
pressure. It is hoped that this fact will be borne in mind as shortcomings are
discovered.
I am indebted to Gen. Paul Vignal, military attache, French Embassy, for clearing
up a few difficulties; to . Maj F. P. Lahm, Signal Corps, as well as to Marchand's Modern
Parisian Slang, for some of the slang terms recorded; to Capt. E. L. Gruber, Field
Artillery, and to Capt. M. E. de Jarny, French Embassy, for some artillery, and to
Col. Wirt Robinson, Military Academy, for some electrical definitions.
My best thanks are due to Sous-Lieut. Maurice Tabuteau, and to Capt. Ernest
Jones, Signal Corps, for valued assistance in aeronautical nomenclature.
C. DE W. W.
