PREFACE.
Of the words contained in the following pages, the vast majority were collected by
reading official and standard texts. The work as it stands was prepared under extreme
pressure. It is hoped that this fact will be borne in mind as shortcomings are
discovered.
I am indebted to Gen. Paul Vignal, military attache, French Embassy, for clearing
up a few difficulties; to . Maj F. P. Lahm, Signal Corps, as well as to Marchand's Modern
Parisian Slang, for some of the slang terms recorded; to Capt. E. L. Gruber, Field
