SUMMARY
The current debate on the need to find indicators or economic aggregates that are
able to express different dimensions of life and then to measure aspects that are not
simply economic significance has become increasingly insistent. In particular, the
adequacy of the GDP, it seems according to some, to represent phenomena such as
happiness or well-being is strongly debated until we get to question the current
paradigm of economic growth, as the ideal model of development and quality of
life. Over time many attempts have been made to make accounting changes to the
GDP with the specific aim of improving its representativeness. It is in this
perspective that the pharmaceutical expenditure could be an instrument for the
construction of an indicator that gives reason for the malaise of a society. The
availability and dissemination of data is still limited and does not perform an
analysis that instead should be dept.
