Programação & Caderno de ResumosL1 sociolinguistic variation and its influence in therealization of L2 vowel exemplarsClerton Luiz Felix Barboza (UERN)Exemplar theory proposes a new phonological paradigm in thesense it focus precisely on how the inherent variation found inthe realization of segmental and supra-segmental fine phoneticdetail, once considered irrelevant for the mental reconstructionprocess of linguistic units, is important for both L1 and L2 productionand perception. The main aim of the present article is, therefore, the presentation and discussion on how previous work on thefield of vowel studies of Brazilian speakers of English as a foreignlanguage provide evidence on L1 vowel sociolinguistic regionalvariation affecting L2 vowel production. Even though all previousstudies comparing the acoustic characteristics of BrazilianPortuguese and English as a foreign language vowel exemplarsdo not focus on L1 sociolinguistic variation, we can observe clearly,by the use of quantitative and qualitative analyses, how L2 vowelexemplars are influenced significantly by the L1 exemplars inboth spectral and durational aspects. The present study alsoproposes a thorough investigation of the L1 vowel exemplarsinfluence over the L2 by the collection and statistical comparisonof data in a few Brazilian metropolitan regions which present acharacteristic accent, such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, BeloHorizonte and other important Brazilian capitals in a Ph.D. levelresearch.Auto-Avaliação Do Professor Em FormaçãoE Possíveis DesdobramentosDaisy Rodrigues do Vale (UFU)Pesquisas relacionadas à formação do pofessor de Inglês têmtrazido contribuições significativas.
