<strong>II</strong> <strong>Congresso</strong> <strong>Internacional</strong> <strong>da</strong> ABRAPUILinguistic Mobility in Ariel Dorfman’s writingsValéria Brisolara Salomon (Unilasalle)Contemporary literature has been marked by exile and migrationand this geographical mobility has made many writers abandontheir mother tongues and adopt a second language or has evenmade some individuals become writers after being trespassedby a second culture and language. This migrant or exiled conditionof many writers in the second half of the XX century has madea new type of writing emerge. It is a writing that is marked bythe linguistic mobility of these writers, who are often split betweentwo cultural and linguistic universes. Ariel Dorfman is one ofthe most successful contemporary writers writing in English inthe United States, despite the fact that he was born in SouthAmerica and his native language was Spanish. In this context,this paper intends to analyze the issue of linguistic mobility inAriel Dorfman’s writings, mainly through the comparison of histwo autobiographies: Heading South, Looking North: a bilingualjourney, which was written in English and its counterpart inSpanish, entitled Rumbo al Sur, Deseando el Norte in the lightof contemporary literary theory and criticism. Reflections by EdwardSaid and Salman Rushdie will be used in the analysis of Dorfman’stexts and the concept of linguistic mobility will be elicited andexemplified.A literatura inglesa na sala de aula do ensino médioValéria Silva Medeiros (UFT)Diante dos desafios que o ensino de literaturas de línguaestrangeira oferece o objetivo deste trabalho pode ser traduzidopela pergunta “porque estu<strong>da</strong>r literatura medieval inglesa noBrasil?”. A resposta é simples, porém pouco conheci<strong>da</strong>. A literaturainglesa começa a se desenvolver em fins do século V<strong>II</strong> ou princípiosdo século V<strong>II</strong>I. Datam desta época as primeiras manifestaçõesliterárias no Ocidente, anteriores às <strong>da</strong>s outras européias. Aépica anglo-saxã é, portanto, anterior ao trovadorismo (séculoX<strong>II</strong>) e a lírica e épica de Camões (séculos XV e XVI). Ou seja,os textos que introduzem o aluno brasileiro ao ensino de Literatura,no caso, a medieval, são tributários à Literatura Inglesa. Estefato pode ser justificado, sem dúvi<strong>da</strong>, pela distância que marcaos estudos dos departamentos anglo-germânicos e de literatura307
