II Congresso Internacional da ABRAPUIao longo de um semestre letivo, em seu primeiro contato comoregentes de aulas de língua inglesa na escola pública. Os resultadosparciais deste trabalho apontam certo desencontro entre asexpectativas e desejos dos alunos em relação às aulas de estágioe sua prática nas escolas-campo. Tal conflito apresenta-se permeadopor sensações como medo, ansiedade e insegurança, visto queos acadêmicos encontram grandes dificuldades para planejar eexecutar as aulas, o que lhes causa sentimentos de impotênciae frustração, corroborando o estudo de Lustosa e Sales (2004),bem como o de Santos (2005), os quais relacionam o conceito deexpectativas às representações sociais projetadas sobre o ensinode língua inglesa e sobre ser professor desse idioma. Os resultadosindicam, ainda, a importância de conhecer, investigar, entendere respeitar as expectativas que os alunos-estagiários trazempara sua vivência acadêmica, para que ações de ressignificaçãode posturas e atitudes possam ser empreendidas e seus reflexosvistos na prática pedagógica. Língua InglesaComparing technical translator’s style on translated brazilianmedical journals to non-translated english medical journalsPaula Tavares Pinto Paiva (UNESP/SJRP)This work aims at discussing translator’s style based on Baker’s(2000) and Camargo’s (2007) proposal for investigating corporaof translated texts with appropriate tools which are able to helpresearchers analyse greater amount of texts, electronically stored,at the same time. According to Baker (2000), translator’s styleis a kind of thumb-print that could be expressed in a range oflinguistic features. Baker & Olohan (2000) observed somecharacteristics of literary translators which were, in this work,investigated and compared to scientific translated texts producedby four professionals who work for medical journals in the fieldsof anesthesiology, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery andorthopaedics. The characteristics observed here were: type/tokenratio, average sentence length and frequency of optional relativepronouns after reporting verbs. The data were also compared tothose of corpora composed by non-translated texts. The resultsshowed that the difference between type/token ratio of translatedand non-translated texts was not significant. As for average sentencelength, translated texts of anaesthesiology were the ones whichshowed the most similarity to non-translated texts. The other205
