OECD SIDS <strong>LINEAR</strong> <strong>ALKYLBENZENE</strong> <strong>SULFONATE</strong> (<strong>LAS</strong>)<br />

Method: OECD Guide-line 401 "Acute Oral Toxicity" 1981. Five male and five<br />

female rats were given <strong>LAS</strong> doses of 1190, 1500 and 1890 or a control by<br />

gavage. Body weight and other signs were measured on days 7 and 14.<br />

Temperature was maintained at 20 + /-1 o C with a 12 hr light-dark cycle.<br />

Animals were observed for 14 days after dosing.<br />

Test substance: Marlon A 330 (CAS #68411-30-3) C10-13 <strong>LAS</strong>, average alkyl chain length =<br />

C11.6; Activity: 30%.<br />

Remarks: Symptoms beginning about 90 minutes past application included diarrhea,<br />

squatting attitude, breathing difficulties, nose bleeding, ataxia, and lethargy.<br />

These symptoms had disappeared in surviving animals by 72 hours.<br />

Virtually all animals died in doses of 1500 mg/kg and above. Note that all<br />

doses are corrected for 30% activity. The original doses were 3980, 5010<br />

and 6310 mg/kg.<br />
