B. NON-BACTERIAL IN VITRO TEST
Type: Transformation test with SHE-cells
System of testing: Syrian hamster embryo (SHE) cells
Concentration: up to 50 ug/mL
Metabolic activation: With [ ]; Without [X]; With and Without [ ]; No data [ ]
Results:
Cytotoxicity conc: Without metabolic activation: 50 µg/mL
Genotoxic effects:
+ ? -
Without metabolic activation: [ ] [ ] [X]
Method: Cell cultures were prepared and plated in 75 cm 2 flasks containing 20 mL of
culture medium. On day 5, target cells were trypsinized and a suspension of
target cells was added to the solution plated on complete medium. Plates
were dosed on day 6. Nine dishes were used for each dose level. On day 14,
the cultures were fixed, stained, and examined to count normal and
transformed colonies.
GLP: Yes [ ] No [X] ? [ ]
Test substance: C10-14 LAS, sodium salts (CAS #69669-44-9); average alkyl chain length
(based on LAS SIDS Consortium Survey, 2000) = C11.7; activity: 22.2%
Remarks: LAS did not produce transformation at any of the doses tested.
Reliability: 2 Valid with restrictions
5.6 GENETIC TOXICITY IN VIVO
(a)
Type: Mammalian bone marrow cytogenetic assay
Species/strain: mouse: ICR: JCL
Sex: Female [ ]; Male [X]; Male/Female [ ]; No data [ ]
Administration: gavage
Exposure period: 5 days and 1 day
