Checking that the Channel is Clear 4690Checking that the Channel is ClearSwitch the 4690 to RADIO and TRACK. The strength meter display shouldindicate 0 or be off and there should be a smooth hiss from the speaker. These are the normal conditions of a clear channel, if the display shows anysignal present, refer to the notes on interference.Take a ReadingSwitch to PEAK HOLD.Take the test transmitter to the intended site and trigger it (the alarm ortamper circuits are suitable). Return to the 4690 and read the maximumstrength level received.Reset the unit by flicking to TRACK then to PEAK HOLD. Repeat the procedurefor all the required positions.Note: Switching the AUDIO switch to TONE whilst carrying out the above procedurewill enable you to listen to the strength. The higher the tone the stronger thesignal. For transmitters which have the facility to continuously transmit (4700series and some 4600 series, refer to transmitter specifications), you can movethe transmitter to find the peak signal position whilst listening to the tone.It is possible and often more convenient to reverse the roles of the transmitterand receiver. Place a transmitter, on permanent transmit, where the receiveris to be sited and move the 4690 around to any desired transmitter position. This is particularly useful for large sites.Set the AUDIO to TONE and the METER switch to TRACK.Check the intended receiver site for interference as described above. If youintend to use an external aerial in the installation, make sure you use themduring the site test.4 of 6 496381 Issue 1
