Connecting to the Telephone Network 8400/8440/90563. Connect the outputs as necessary. These are marked NC, C and NO onthe 8400, and O/P on the 8440.Connecting to the Telephone NetworkTo connect a communicator:1. Undo the two screws on the plastic cover (marked “Safety Warning seeUser <strong>Manual</strong>”) and remove the cover.2. Use three core cable type 1/05 CW1308. Strip back 5mm on each core.3. Connect the two cores to terminals A and B on the telephone connectorof the communicator. Connect the cable from the A and B terminals tothe corresponding terminals on the BT master socket.Figure 5. Connection to the Telephone Network4. If other apparatus (for example a telephone) shares the telephone linewith a 8400 -01, 8440 -01 or 9056 -01, connect the main apparatus tothe connection marked A1 and B1 on the communicator. The communicatorswill introduce a voltage drop of 100mV at a line current of 40mA.Caution: Do not connect more than one such series apparatus betweena main apparatus (for example a telephone) and the PSTN.5. Feed the cables through the entries in the plastic enclosures.6. Early models of the 8400/8440/9056 have a Earth terminal (marked E).Connect this terminal to a suitable earthing point. Later models of thecommunicators do not have this terminal, as the method of lightningprotection does not require an earth connection.Initial Startup8400, 8440: Connect the power supply positive to the +12V terminal on thecommunicator.9056: The 9056 draws its power from the host through the connectors on themain pcb.6 of 8 496352 Issue 1
