mens PA, the tariff and Free trade - developments within
the Americas and Asia towards the EU were focused. The
outcomes of this analysis based the strategic recommen-
dation, on how to configure optimally the PA business de-
pendent on trade barrier developments. All other influenc-
ing factors on global business configuration are held con-
stant within the analysis. In solving this challenging issue,
the project team worked for a timeline of four months. On-
site of Siemens PA headquarter in Nuremberg, the analy-
sis was kicked off in May, 2004, followed by a three week
analysis at the PA-site. Afterwards, the intensivation of the
analysis was persecuted by Germany and Georgia-based
project teams. The American-team worked on the analysis
of the Americas, the German team focused Asia, espe-
cially China and India. The panel analysed the relevant lit-
erature and professional thesis and forecasts on the topic.
Results and interdependencies were discussed and sum-
marized in periodic telephone and video conferences. The
results of the analysis identify trade barriers as a major
impact on competitiveness, especially for European busi-
ness units.
