O'N. or 0''Neachtaiii. Poems and other tracts
by the O'Neach tains, Teig, John, and Teic,
father, son, and grandson, who hved at the
beginning and middle of the last century.
The younger Teig was a schoolmaster in Dub-
Hn. There is in tlie Library of Trinity College,
a large Enghsh-Irish Dictionaiy com-
piled by him, with an intent to pubhsli it. It
appears by a memorandum at the end of the
work, that he spent six years at it, and finished
it in the year 1739. Through the indulgence
of the Provost and Fellows of the College, I
had access to this book, by which I have been
enabled to add a great number of words to
my collection. In the year 1741, the yoimger
Teig made a collation of the Punic speech in
Plautus, with the Irish. The original is in
my possession, and General Vallancey had the
use of it long before he published his collation
of that speech, which first obtained for him
the reputation of an Irish scholar. The General
made no acknowledgment of liis obhgations
to O'Neachtain.
