Anglicised Springfield. It is an old square
castle, in a townland of the same name, in the
parish of Killagholehane, in the south of the
county of Limerick. It adjoins the house of
Lord Muskerry. This is mentioned in the
Antials of the Four Masters, at the year 1579,
and by O'Siilhvan Beare, in his History of
the Catholics, where he renders it " ager
fontis", and in Brnith's Collections, about the
Siege of Limerick.
