MaxSea Operator Manual version 12.6 Opening a weather file It is assumed that you already have the GRIB file save on your hard disk or opened directly from an e-mail Using weather button The weather button is used to show or hide the last opened weather file. If you don't open GRIB file before when you click the weather button 198 1. A browse window is opened 2. Select the folder where the GRIB file is saved 3. Select the desired weather forecast from the file list and click Open. Now each time you click on the weather button, this weather data will be displayed or hidden even if the weather file is closed. If you want to change the displayed file you have to open a new weather file. Different types of information (wind, swell, pressure, etc.) can be contained in this file. The software displays immediately on the chart the forecast for the present date, if the present date is included in the interval covered by the forecasts. If it is not the case, the time is set to the last forecast date. You can also change the display sate : Change display date chapter. Note: (1) you can only open one weather forecast file at a time. (2) by default the wind is displayed in the form of vectors with barbs, the swell in the form of vectors characteristic of direction and height, pressure in the form of isolines and water temperatures in the forms of areas. See Weather data display preferences paragraph to change a display. How to open a new weather file. 1. Select [Open weather file] from the [Weather] menu . 2. A browse window is opened. 3. Select the folder in which you wish save the GRIB file. 4. Then choose among the file list the required weather forecast file and click Open. Getting a Weather file from e-mail You just receive Weather information from an e-mail (using MaxSea chopper,Navimail...). • Double click directly on attached file which you have received in your e-mail. A dialog box appears and gives you two choices 1. open the file
2. save it to your computer • Click on "Open..." to launch it directly in MaxSea. Weather Forecast IMPORTANT - in this case files are saved in temporary internet file folder and cannot be opened again directly using the file open procedure. It become the default weather file until the next download. • Or click on "Save..." and select the destination folder. The file is then saved in the selected folder and ready to be opened and displayed on a chart. (See chapter "Weather file save on hard disk" .) Using a Weather file saved on Hard Disk Weather file can be saved on your hard disk : • from an e-mail attached file save on the hard disk (via MaxSea chopper, via Navimail,...l) • after a copy from an external support (diskette) • ... Weather file extension To be opened by MaxSea Weather file you have should have .GRB or .bz2 extension • GRB : is the extension for GRIB file format • bz2 : Bzip2 compressed file extension. this type of file is automatically decompressed by MaxSea during the opening. Note : 1 - If the extension is not the good one or missing then MaxSea cannot see and open the file. 2 - If the file is compressed (Zip,Rar,...) then you have to use the corresponding program (Winzip,Winrar,...) to extract the GRIB file. Weather Information MaxSea allows you to easily show or hide each type of data contained in the weather file.
