<strong>MaxSea</strong> polar file<br />

The polar axes for boat are different and <strong>MaxSea</strong> will calculate the best route.<br />

These polar are very useful for the knowledge of its sailing boat and <strong>MaxSea</strong> puts at your disposal a whole library of polar<br />

files in reference to one Category of boat.<br />

These polar files are to list by default in " My Documents |My <strong>MaxSea</strong>| Polar" repertory.<br />

When starting <strong>MaxSea</strong> for the first time, you will open the polar file stored by default in "My Document | My <strong>MaxSea</strong> "<br />

folder.<br />

If you have a professional <strong>MaxSea</strong> <strong>version</strong> you can create automatically your own polar file.<br />

Opening a polar file<br />

Your boat’s potential performances are saved as speed polars.<br />

The first time the program is launched you are asked to select a polar file; this is the file, which will subsequently be<br />

automatically loaded when the program is re-launched.<br />

• If you wish to change the polar file select [Open] from the [File] menu.<br />

• Then, choose the polar file which has for extension (*.pol ) from the "Polar" folder from "My documents"<br />

folder.<br />

Note: to show only the polar files, click on the Files of type pop-up menu and select "Utils: Polar(*.pol)" item .<br />

• Lastly select the desired file from the list and click on Open.<br />

Note: you may create as many polar files as you wish (a "choppy sea" one, a "calm sea" one, etc.). The Open<br />

function allows you to select which one the calculations should be based on at any given moment.<br />

IMPORTANT - The Race function presupposes that information concerning your ship’s course are known to the<br />

program. The Race module is only relevant if your computer is connected to a navigation system (such as Brookes<br />

& Gatehouse, NKE, etc.) which supplies information as to the actual and supposed wind direction and force, the
