Fleet Tracking, targets displayed on the chart Fleet tracking overview By means of a modem and a communication software, the user has access to a server which supplies him with all the latest positions of targets to be followed. This communication utility then records a file containing the positions. Any software can send position reports to MaxSea and after, using the PosMaxSea database. As for example, the fleet tracking software which is named Std C Detect, can read and translate files as PosMaxSea (*.txt) or Volvo or ARGOS format into the PosMaxSea database which is a Microsoft Access 2000 type. MaxSea reads new records from this database. If a position date is earlier than the Mobile date from MaxSea, it will be automatically updated in Maxsea. MaxSea never deletes records from the database. This can only be done from the software of the position records which writes new positions and replaces the previous. It detects the presence of such file and has all the targets positions displayed on the chart. You will learn in this section: 1. Install the Fleet tracking program 2. Activate the Fleet tracking 3. Fleet Tracking, targets displayed on the chart Installing the Fleet tracking program Caution We assume that MaxSea is properly installed on your hard disk. If not, please refer to the MaxSea installation manual. It is absolutely necessary to install the fleet tracking software by means of the MaxSea's installation CD-ROM. In order to do so, insert this CD-ROM and choose "Other products" and then "Fleet positioner".
Activating the Fleet tracking To activate the Fleet tracking function: Click the Windows start button, point to [Programs] choose [StartUp] and click on [Std C Detect] This has two consequences: 1. The Help about "STD-C detect" appears. Targets 2. The "STD-C detect" program is launched and the STD-C icon symbol appears near the clock in Windows taskbar. This shows you that the "STD-C detect" server is available. Choosing the Fleet tracking options How to access the "STD-C detect " functions : 1. right click on the "STD-C detect" icon symbol in the taskbar. 2. A list of options appears. Pick up a task: 1. Change parameters. 2. Check now 3. Reporting 4. Choose French language 5. Choose English language 6. Display help 7. Get more information about STD-C detect. 8. Stop the communication Setting Fleet tracking parameters Fleet tracking software reads file in a specific directory at a given frequency. Users are warned when new data are provided. The setting dialog box of STD-C detect parameters consists in five parts: Part1 - Parameters tab allows you to: • Choose reading "check mail" frequency. • Set means of the warning. Part2 - Folder and Message tab allows you to: • Choose different directories in which "Fleet tracking software" reads files. 377
