AIS Targets AIS overview - This function is included in MaxSea depending on your own software version. Before using it, the hardware installation has to be done. MaxSea provides the capability to connect to an AIS and may provide remote presentation of reported AIS targets. In combination with MaxSea, the AIS technology gives you an improved surveillance system and information about nearby ship traffic. The three main components in the Transponder are : • GPS-receiver, • VHF-transceiver, • Computer. The GPS-receiver provides accurate position and navigation data, the computer packs this information together and broadcasts the data on a digital data link via the VHF-transceiver. All vessels within VHF range equipped with an AIS transponder can receive this message, unpack it, and plot the position, vessel name (references), speed over ground, course over ground of the other vessels.. How to configure AIS system with MaxSea After connecting the AIS System, you just need to configure the corresponding serial port at the "AIS Transponder" Norm. 1. Go to [Utilities] menu and select [Input Output data settings] 2. Click on the Radar & AIS tab to set the corresponding port and its norm 3. Click on Add instrument. 4. Select serial COM port where the system is connected and click Next. 5. Choose a norm between AIS NMEA 183 / AIS transponder or other.... 6. Click Next and Finish to confirm. Note: When connected to an AIS, own boat data can be taken from VDO sentence . >> AIS VDO sentence contains LAT, LON, SOG, COG and HEADING from own boat. AIS Targets Displayed on the Chart Targets MaxSea provides an overview of vessels transmitting AIS signals. The vessels are shown with different symbols depending on zoom level, and all information about individual vessels are presented in an easily accessible way. Track of AIS targets displayed on the chart, can be recorded in MaxSea exactly as you do for recording your ship track.
