9. SPECIFYING INTERIOR WALLS, INTERIOR FLOORS, CEILINGS, UNDERGROUND WALLS,UNDERGROOND FLOORS, AND NON-GLASS DOORSNote: The following discussion applies only to interior walls, interiorfloors, ceil ings, underground walls, underground floors, and doors. For discussionof other surfaces, refer to the section in this chapter entitled"SPECIFYING EXTERIOR WALLS, EXTERIOR FLOORS, AND ROOFS".In the LOADS calculation, that is, calculating the flow of heat throughinterior walls, interior floors, ceil ings, underground walls, undergroundfloors, and doors, the program treats all these surfaces as steady-state, or"quick", constructions with little thermal capacitance. The heat flow is notdelayed. One exception to the preceeding statement occurs when CustomWeighting Factors are generated for interior walls, interior floors, ceilings,underground walls, and underground floors.The <strong>DOE</strong>-2 program treats interior walls, interior floors, and ceil ings inan identical manner. The only difference is the physical orientation of thesurface. All three of these surfaces are described in the INTERIOR-WALLinstruction. See Fig. IlL 20.The program treats underground walls and underground floors in the samemanner as interior walls, except the underground surfaces have one surfacecovered (the outside surface) and no NEXT-TO SPACE. Underground walls andunderground floors are described in the instructions by the same names.Non-glass doors in exterior walls are specified in the DOOR instruction.Glass doors in exterior walls should be specified not in the DOOR instructionbut rather in the WINDOW instruction. Doors in interior walls should not bespecified in the DOOR instruction. Such doors, however, may be specified asinterior walls.When a user specifies any of the surfaces discussed in this section(except glass doors), one of two approaches must be followed: (1) if the useris not using Custom Weighting Factors, he will be referred back to apreviously defined CONSTRUCTION instruction. In that referenced CONSTRUCTIONinstruction, a numerical value must be specified for the U-VALUE keyword (donot specify an entry for the LAYERS keyword), or (2) if the user is usingCustom Weighting Factors, he will most 1 ikely have defined his interior wallsas "delayed" for the purpose of the weighting factor calculation (see Sec.III.C). For the heat flow through the walls on an hourly basis, the programwill use a calculated U-value and the user need not input one.111.69 (Revised 5/81)
