9. ENERGY-COSTThe ENERGY-COST instruction specifies the cost, or a schedule of costs, for the energy used by the facility. For the purpose of specifying costs, energy resources are divided into ten categories, as follows:1. Electricity direct from a utility2. Diesel oil3. Natural gas4. Fuel oil5. Purchased steam6. Liquified petroleum gas7. Coal8. Methanol9. Purchased chilled water10. BiomassUnit energy costs may be uniform regardless of the quantity used, may vary infixed-size blocks, or may vary in block sizes that are a function of themonthly peak loads. If the cost of energy varies with the quantity of energy used, up to ninedifferent rates may be entered, corresponding to nine blocks of energy. Demandsurcharges are always calculated by the program and added to the cost of energyto determine the total energy-related cost.A separate ENERGY-COST instruction is required for each energy resourcecategory for which the user wishes to specify costs. If the user omits thisinstruction for any resource used by the facility, the program will use thedefault values shown in Table V.12. There can be significant energy costdifferences based on location and size of installation, so the default valuesthe program uses may not be realistic for the user's facility.ENERGY-COSTRESOURCEThis command word informs the PDL Processor that the data tofollow are the costs associated with a particular energyresource used by the facility.is followed by the code-word that identifies the energyresource category for cost data. The code-words are:ELECTRICITYDIESEL-OILNATURAL-GASFUEL-OIL*STEAMLPGCOALMETHANOL*CHILLED-WATERBIOMASSfor electric energy purchased from a utilityfor diesel oilfor natural gasfor fuel oilfor steam purchased from an off-site sourcefor liquified petroleum gas (propane or butane)for coalfor methyl alcoholfor chilled water purchased from an off-site sourcefor combustible solid waste*If the user wishes to use a STEAM or CHILLED-WATER utility, an ENERGY-COSTcommand must be entered for that RESOURCE.V.83 (Revised 5/81)
