10. MATERIALThe MATERIAL instruction is used to specify the heat transfer propertiesfor one layer of a construction in an exterior wall, exterior floor, or roof. These properties will be subsequently used to calculate the thermal responsefactors of the composite wall (see LAYERS instruction). The response factorswill then be used in the calculation of Custom Weighting Factors, if the userchooses that option. For interior floors, interior walls, underground walls, and underground floors, a MATERIAL instruction may be specified, but it willbe used only for the calculation of the optional Custom Weighting Factors;heat flow for these surfaces is calculated as a "quick" surface. This instruction is used when materials from the 00E-2 MATERIALs Libraryare not appropriate. The 00E-2-prespecified materials are described in Chap.X of this manual and are stored on the 00E-2 file named BOLLIB. The ASHRAEprespecifiedmaterials are described in the 1977 ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals,Chap. 25, Table 8, p. 25.10 (Ref. 5) and are also stored on the 00E-2file name BOLLIB. A reprint of Table 8 is included in the previous Section ofthe manual. The user should review the discussion (immediately preceding this section)if he is not familiar with how to specify walls.U-nameMATERIALLIKETHICKNESSCONOUCTI V ITYDENSITYSPECIFIC-HEATmust be specified for this instruction. It identifies thisMATERIAL in a subsequent LAYERS instruction. This command tells LOADS that the data to follow specifythe properties of a material.may be used to copy data from a previously U-named MATERIALinstruction. It is not possible to use the LIKE keyword tospecify a MATERIAL in the 00E-2 MATERIALs Library, such asAC01, CM01, CB17, Al, A2, etc. (these materials areidentified and called by specifying code-words, notU-names, in the LAYERS instruction).specifies the thickness of the material in units of feet.is used to specify the thermal conductivity of the materialin Btu-ft/hr-ft2_oF. The entry for this keyword isexpressed per foot of thickness, not per inch. Hence, values given per inch of thickness must be divided by 12 toobtain the correct entry.specifies the material density in lb/ft3.specifies the specific heat capacity of the material inBtu/lb-oF.III.73 (Revised 5/81)
