2. Parametric RunsThe SYSTEMS program has been designed with the flexibility to permitparallel parametric runs. That is, more than one system or collection of systemscan be simulated in a single run. Figure IV.1 is an example of thisarrangement. In one computer run calculations can be made for two differentplant assignments (PA-1 and PA-2), each plant assignment serving all ten (10)zones .of the example building. Plant assignment PA-1 consists of systems S-l(serving zones 1 through 5) and S-2 (serving zones 6 through 10). Plantassignment PA-2 consists of system S-3 (serving zones 1 through 3) and systemS-4 (serving zones 4 through 10). A maximum of four plant assignments can besimulated in a single computer run. The purpose of this procedure is to reducecomputer time and, hence, computation cost.SYSTEM2S-3 3PLANT-ASS!GNMeNT4PA-2PA-l5-4 867ZONESFig. IV.1Example of a "parallel" parametric run.The user may assign to a system any set of zones, and also assign to aplant any set of systems, with the exception that a single system may appearin only one plant and a single zone may appear only once in a plant. The usermay assign the same zone to more than one system if the SYSTEMs are indifferent PLANT-ASSIGNMENTs.3. System CombinationsA considerable number of optional components and control strategies areavailable for many of the energy distribution systems that are modeled by thisprogram. These options, described for each system in Sec. B, include optionalreturn and exhaust fans; fixed outside-air flow rate, or one of two types ofvariaule outside air flow rates; summer and/or winter humidity control; hourly,IV.2 (Revised 5/81)
