This SYSTEM-TYPE utilizes a thermostat with two set points, only one ofwhich is effective at anyone time, depending upon the occupants needs. The cooling source for PTAC is controlled by the user input forCOOL-TEMP-SCH for the ZONE plus its associated SCHEDULE. The heating sourceis similarly controlled by HEAT-TEMP-SCH.The supply air fan speed is determined by the program based upon the zoneload. At calculated ZONE temperatures above the cooling THROTTLING-RANGE, thecooling source runs continuously. At all calculated ZONE temperatures withinthe cooling THROTTLING-RANGE, the cooling source cycles on and off. Thecooling source runs just long enough, during the simulation hour, to extractthe correct number of Btus to cool the ZONE. As the ZONE temperature dropsinto the dead band, the cooling source is turned off. The fan runscontinuously if outside air was specified; otherwise, the fan cycles on andoff with the heating or cooling source. As the calculated ZONE temperaturedrops into the top of the heating THROTTLING-RANGE, the heating source cycleson. At ZONE temperatures below the heating THROTTLING-RANGE, the heatingsource runs continuously.Procedure:(1) Specify SYSTEM-TYPE = PTAC in the SYSTEM command.(2) If the user wishes to use the heat pump option, he should specifyHEAT-SOURCE = HEAT-PUMP in the SYSTEM command. An electricalutility demand will be passed on to PLANT.(3) Specify COOL-TEMP-SCH in the ZONE-CONTROL subcommand (and anassociated SCHEDULE) with hourly values of desired ZONE temperaturefor cooling. If the user does not specify a COOL-TEMP-SCH for theZONE, the cooling source is never activated.(4) Specify HEAT-TEMP-SCH in the ZONE-CONTROL subcommand (and anassociated SCHEDULE) with hourly values of desired ZONE temperaturefor heating. If the user does not specify a HEAT-TEMP-SCH for theZONE, the heating source is never activated.(5) Specify FAN-CONTROL = TWO-SPEED (or allow it to default to thatvalue) in the SYSTEM-FANS subcommand. Also, specify values forLOW-SPEED-RATIOS in the same subcommand.(6) The desired control strategy for the system has now been specified. To complete the input, specify values for the other keywords thatare appropriate to this SYSTEM-TYPE, or allow these keywords todefault.IV.146 (Revised 5/81)
