Chinese medical treatment is not a substitute for a glutenfreediet. Rice should become the main grain eaten bypatients with celiac disease, and the diet should generallyconform to a Chinese medical clear, bland diet. Althoughsuch a gluten-free diet will itself heal most cases of sprue,Chinese medical treatment typically quickens the relief ofaccompanying symptoms without side effects.2. For mouth sores, one can spray powdered Huang Bai(Cortex Phellodendri) or the Chinese ready-made medicineXi Gua Shuang (Watermelon Frost) directly on the sores orrinse the mouth with a decoction of Phellodendron.3. For the treatment of delayed menstruation, excessivelyscanty menstruation, or amenorrhea, see Bob Flaws’s AHandbook of Menstrual Diseases in Chinese Medicine alsopublished by Blue Poppy Press.4.
