QI VACUITY FALLING DOWNWARD PATTERNMAIN SYMPTOMS: Drooping eyelids, double vision, abright white, lusterless facial complexion, decreased eating,loose stools, fatigue, lassitude <strong>of</strong> the spirit, scanty qi, disinclinationto speak, a weak voice, a slight degree <strong>of</strong> lack <strong>of</strong>strength and warmth in the extremities, symptoms better inthe morning and worse in the afternoon, a pale tongue withwhite fur, and a fine, weak pulse. In addition, BaiBian Dou and Bai Zhu with the help <strong>of</strong> Chen Pi transformdampness, Huang Jing and Shan Yao supplement the kidneys,and Huang Qi with the help <strong>of</strong> Chai Hu and Sheng Maupbears yang and lifts the fallen. Dang Gui regulates theblood, while Chen Pi regulates the qi. Zi He Che supplementsthe qi, blood, yin, and yang and treats weakness andwilting condition.ADDITIONS & SUBTRACTIONS: If there is chest oppressionand venter glomus with slimy tongue fur, add nine gramseach <strong>of</strong> Cang Zhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis) and Pei Lan(Herba Eupatorii). Ifthere is a severe qi vacuity with severe fatigue, increase thedosage <strong>of</strong> Huang Qi and Dang Shen up to 50 grams and that<strong>of</strong> Chai Hu and Sheng Ma up to nine grams.An alternative treatment to Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is ShengXian Tang (Upbear the Fallen Decoction) which is anotherfamous formula for the treatment <strong>of</strong> the qi vacuity fallingdownward pattern: rice stir-fried Dang Shen (RadixCodonopsitis) and honey stir-fried Huang Qi (RadixAstragali), 30g each, Gang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis),Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), and Chai Hu (RadixBupleuri), 9g each, mix-fried Gan Cao (RadixGlycyrrhizae), 5g, Gui Zhi (Ramulus Cin<strong>nam</strong>omi) and JieGeng (Radix Platycodi), 3g each.ACUPUNCTURE & MOXIBUSTION: For any pattern <strong>of</strong>myasthenia gravis, one can select points from the three followinggroups: 1) local points according to which limbs areweak, 2) distant points according to the pattern discrimination,and 3) symptomatic points according to the main manifestations<strong>of</strong> the patient1. Local points: A) For weakness <strong>of</strong> the upper arm: Da Zhui(GV 14), Jia Ji (EX-B-2) T1-T8. Select 2-3 points per treatment.B) For weakness in the forearm: Jian Yu (LI 15), BiNao (LI 14), Qu Chi (LI 11), Shou San Li (LI 10), He Gu (LI4), Wai Guan (TB 5). Select 2-3 points per treatment. C) Forweakness in the buttocks and thighs: Ci Liao (Bl 32), ZhiBian (Bl 34), Yao Yang Guan (GV 3), Jia Ji (EX-B-2) T10-L5. Select 2-3 points per treatment. D) For weakness in thelower legs: Bi Guan (St 31), Fu Tu (St 32), Liang Qiu (St 34),Zu San Li (St 36), Shang Ju Xu (St 37), Jie Xi (St 41). Select2-3 points per treatment.2. Distant points: Qi Hai (CV 6), Zu San Li (St 36), Bai Hui(GV 20)3.
