Most Western cases of chronic prostatitis involve at leastsome element of damp heat. When there is a history of urinarytract infection, this damp heat may have been an externallyinvading damp heat or at least a totally replete dampheat. However, if damp heat lingers and endures, it damagesthe spleen and consumes yin. Therefore, chronic prostatitis iscommonly complicated by qi and yin vacuity. Because lingeringdamp heat obstructs the free flow of qi, it is also typicallycomplicated by stasis and stagnation.
