Do once every other day for 14 days with aweek’s rest between courses.Yet another Chinese medicinal enema is Jun Kun Tang (Army& Feminine Decoction). Here “army” refers to Da Huangwhich is also called Jun and “feminine” refers to Yi Mu Caowhich is also called Kun Cao. Ingredients: Da Huang (Radix EtRhizoma Rhei), 40g, Yi Mu Cao (Herba Leonuri), 30g, Mu Li(Concha Ostreae), 30g, and Zhi Fu Zi (Radix LateralisPraeparatus Aconiti Carmichaeli), 15g. Put themedicinals in 500 milliliters of water and decoct until reducedto 200 milliliters. Retain the resulting warm (but not hot) liquidfor 20-30 minutes each time. Do one enema per day for 20days. Then stop for five days before resuming another 20 daycourse. If there is concomitant yang vacuity, add three gramsof Rou Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi). If there is yin vacuity, subtractZhi Fu Zi. If there is high blood pressure, subtract Zhi FuZi and add 12 grams each of Chi Shao ( Radix Paeoniae Rubrae) and Huai Hua Mi (Flos Immaturus Sophorae). For bloodystools, add 15 grams of Di Yu (Radix Sanguisorbae). If there arewhite blood cells in the urine, add 30 grams each of Pu GongYing (Herba Taraxaci) and Huang Bai (Cortex Phellodendri).2. During remission, decoct 60 grams of Bai Zhu (RhizomaAtractylodis Macrocephalae) with rice soup and take onetime per day. Since the core mechanism of this condition isspleen(-kidney) vacuity, this treatment can lengthen the periodof remission according to Dr. Yan.3. If stasis heat damages liver-kidney yin and blood heatmoves frenetically while the spirit brightness is depressed, then the condition will become very critical.4. According to recent research, Da Huang (Radix EtRhizoma Rhei), Dong Chong Xia Cao (Cordyceps), He ShouWu (Radix Polygoni Multiflori), Huang Qi (Radix Astragali),and Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae) are particularlygood medicinals for treating chronic renal failure.5. As with chronic glomerulonephritis, one should avoid prescribingany medicinals that are nephrotoxic to patients withchronic renal failure. Please see chronic glomerulonephritisfor a list of some of the most commonly used Chinese medicinalswhich may be toxic to the kidneys.
