For severe heat toxinswith a red, painful, swollen throat, add 15 grams each <strong>of</strong> ShanDou Gen (Radix Sophorae Subprostratae), Ban Lan Gen (RadixIsatidis/Baphicacanthi), and She Gan (Rhizoma Belamcandae).For heat entering in the pericardium with restlessness, insomnia,deranged speech, and confusion, add nine grams each <strong>of</strong> Zhi Zi(F<strong>ru</strong>ctus Gardeniae) and Lian Xin (Plumula Nelumbinis) andsix grams <strong>of</strong> Huang Lian (Rhizoma Coptidis). For fever, add 30grams <strong>of</strong> Jin Yin Hua (Flos Lonicerae). For fatigue and weakness,add 12 grams each <strong>of</strong> Huang Qi (Radix Astragali) andDang Shen (Radix Codonopsitis).ACUPUNCTURE & MOXIBUSTION: Ge Shu (Bl 17), XueHai (Sp 10), San Yin Jiao (Sp 6), Yong Quan (Ki 1)ANALYSIS OF FORMULA: Ge Shu is the meeting point <strong>of</strong> theblood. Draining it cools the blood and clears the const<strong>ru</strong>ctive,quickens the blood and stops bleeding mainly in the upperpart <strong>of</strong> the body. Xue Hai’s <strong>nam</strong>e is the sea <strong>of</strong> blood.
