Personal <strong>and</strong> team resilience refers to the capacity of<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividuals <strong>and</strong> teams to stay healthy <strong>and</strong> achieve high levels<br />
of performance <strong>in</strong> the face of work pressure. In <strong>Nestlé</strong>, we are<br />
work<strong>in</strong>g proactively to enhance <strong>our</strong> resilience <strong>and</strong> <strong>our</strong> physical<br />
<strong>and</strong> mental health. In July <strong>2015</strong>, we launched the <strong>Nestlé</strong><br />
Guidance on Stress <strong>and</strong> Resilience, which is currently be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
communicated across <strong>our</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess. We conducted f<strong>our</strong> Skype<br />
meet<strong>in</strong>gs expla<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the stress <strong>and</strong> resilience guidel<strong>in</strong>e, which<br />
is meant to support local programmes, reach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>our</strong> Health<br />
<strong>and</strong> Wellness Champions <strong>and</strong> safety <strong>and</strong> health managers.<br />
The new guidel<strong>in</strong>e recommends a holistic approach to<br />
reduce the risk of work-related stress for <strong>our</strong> people, through<br />
methods <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g communication, education <strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g,<br />
risk assessment, personal resilience, support for <strong>in</strong>dividual<br />
employees (such as employee assistance programmes) <strong>and</strong><br />
flexible work<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Wellness<br />
Wellness is an essential aspect of <strong>our</strong> Group bus<strong>in</strong>ess strategy,<br />
as it relates to the foods, beverages <strong>and</strong> services that we<br />
develop <strong>and</strong> produce. We aim to help employees make more<br />
<strong>in</strong>formed decisions to achieve <strong>and</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> a healthy lifestyle,<br />
us<strong>in</strong>g the <strong>Nestlé</strong> Framework for Employee Health.<br />
To help us, we employ occupational health professionals,<br />
nutritionists <strong>and</strong> rehabilitation experts, <strong>and</strong> enc<strong>our</strong>age site<br />
champions, HR staff <strong>and</strong> colleagues to support <strong>our</strong> wellness<br />
work. Our markets organise a wide variety of <strong>in</strong>itiatives from<br />
counsell<strong>in</strong>g, smok<strong>in</strong>g cessation, stress management <strong>and</strong><br />
dependent care, to fitness centre affiliations <strong>and</strong> leisure<br />
activities. Some <strong>in</strong>itiatives are designed to help tackle specific<br />
needs, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g health screen<strong>in</strong>gs, such as cardiovascular<br />
<strong>and</strong> diabetes test<strong>in</strong>g, vacc<strong>in</strong>ations, HIV/AIDS prevention<br />
<strong>in</strong>formation, <strong>and</strong> care, <strong>and</strong> distribution of mosquito bed nets,<br />
to prevent malaria.<br />
Award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g health <strong>and</strong><br />
wellness programme, Greece<br />
<strong>Nestlé</strong> Hellas received two awards dur<strong>in</strong>g the Greek HR<br />
Awards <strong>2015</strong>, for its NOIAZOMAI (I Care) health <strong>and</strong> wellness<br />
<strong>in</strong>itiative <strong>and</strong> the Pur<strong>in</strong>a Pets@Work Initiative.<br />
<strong>Nestlé</strong> Hellas currently has more than 170 participants <strong>in</strong><br />
health-related programmes each month, with an <strong>in</strong>crease of<br />
approximately 340% compared to last year. Initiatives <strong>in</strong>clude<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividualised ergonomic <strong>and</strong> physiotherapeutic <strong>in</strong>tervention<br />
for treat<strong>in</strong>g work-related musculo-skeletal disorders <strong>in</strong> the<br />
office, m<strong>in</strong>i-sem<strong>in</strong>ars on health-related topics, with follow-ups<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g free blood tests, <strong>and</strong> sports activities, such as a<br />
m<strong>in</strong>i-basketball league, a runn<strong>in</strong>g club that has more than 70<br />
participants, gym classes <strong>and</strong> table tennis equipment <strong>in</strong> the<br />
head office.<br />
The Pur<strong>in</strong>a Pets@Work Initiative was recognised <strong>in</strong> the Best<br />
Mental Health Resilience Initiative category, as it is designed to<br />
improve the health of employees by reduc<strong>in</strong>g stress <strong>and</strong> blood<br />
pressure, promot<strong>in</strong>g a healthy work–life balance.<br />
Healthy workplaces <strong>in</strong> Portugal<br />
<strong>Nestlé</strong> Portugal has been recognised with the Healthy<br />
Workplaces Award <strong>2015</strong> for its safety, health <strong>and</strong> wellness<br />
employee <strong>in</strong>itiatives. Activities that were highlighted as part of<br />
the award <strong>in</strong>cluded its Leadership <strong>in</strong> Safety & Health<br />
Programmes, VRM-associated with coach<strong>in</strong>g practices,<br />
Wellness <strong>in</strong> Action, the framework Learn-Feel-Choose <strong>and</strong> the<br />
high-quality implementation of <strong>our</strong> <strong>Nestlé</strong> & I employee survey.<br />
The award was given by the Order of Portuguese Psychologists<br />
<strong>and</strong> the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations, <strong>in</strong><br />
partnership with the European Agency for Safety <strong>and</strong> Health at<br />
Work, <strong>and</strong> the Portuguese Authorities for Work<strong>in</strong>g Conditions<br />
<strong>and</strong> Health.<br />
The award was received on behalf of <strong>Nestlé</strong> Portugal by Marta Henriques (<strong>Nestlé</strong><br />
Portugal Safety & Health Manager) <strong>and</strong> Greg Scilipoti (<strong>Nestlé</strong> Portugal HR Director)<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g the annual Work <strong>and</strong> Organizational Psychology European conference.<br />
Strategic priority 4: management processes<br />
Communication <strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
Communication <strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g are key enablers to build<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
capability of <strong>our</strong> people, <strong>and</strong> to w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g hearts <strong>and</strong> m<strong>in</strong>ds.<br />
Dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>2015</strong>, we improved safety <strong>and</strong> health communications<br />
<strong>in</strong> many markets, to engage <strong>our</strong> employees <strong>and</strong> improve levels<br />
of underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g around <strong>our</strong> management processes.<br />
Methods <strong>in</strong>clude the use of webpages, the S&H corporate<br />
website, <strong>our</strong> ‘Chatter’ groups <strong>and</strong> ‘Digests’, which is a periodic<br />
email communication circulated to all markets conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g a<br />
collection of the most recent safety <strong>and</strong> health publications on<br />
<strong>our</strong> corporate website. Sites also celebrate safety days/weeks<br />
<strong>and</strong> do road shows to engage employees on important topics.<br />
In addition, tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g is m<strong>and</strong>atory on topics such as<br />
management of high-hazard tasks, contractor management<br />
<strong>and</strong> behavi<strong>our</strong>-based feedback.<br />
