<strong>2015</strong> progress<br />

S<strong>in</strong>ce 2011, we have rema<strong>in</strong>ed the first <strong>and</strong> only breast-milk substitute manufacturer to be <strong>in</strong>cluded<br />

<strong>in</strong> the FTSE4Good Index. <strong>Nestlé</strong> is the only company to restrict the market<strong>in</strong>g of <strong>in</strong>fant formula <strong>and</strong><br />

follow-on formula up to 12 months of age <strong>in</strong> 152 higher-risk countries.<br />

<strong>Nestlé</strong> ranked 2 nd <strong>in</strong> the <strong>2015</strong> assessment of the Global Access to Nutrition Index (published <strong>in</strong><br />

January 2016), which benchmarks the world’s largest food <strong>and</strong> beverage manufacturers on their<br />

nutrition-related <strong>commitments</strong>, practices <strong>and</strong> performance. <strong>Nestlé</strong> ranked 1 st <strong>in</strong> the subcategories<br />

of breast-milk market<strong>in</strong>g practices, general nutrition <strong>and</strong> under-nutrition.<br />

The DJSI, which evaluates the susta<strong>in</strong>ability performance of the largest 2500 companies listed on<br />

the Dow Jones Total Stock Market Index, gave <strong>Nestlé</strong> an <strong>in</strong>dustry-best score of 100/100 for Health<br />

<strong>and</strong> Nutrition Performance (the <strong>in</strong>dustry average is 48/100) <strong>and</strong> ranked the company with an overall<br />

score of 89/90.<br />

Multi-stakeholder engagement<br />

<strong>and</strong> leadership<br />

Address<strong>in</strong>g nutrition <strong>and</strong> health challenges is complex <strong>and</strong><br />

requires the collaboration of many stakeholders. We believe<br />

that participat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>, <strong>and</strong> lead<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>dustry collective efforts<br />

can help raise st<strong>and</strong>ards, mak<strong>in</strong>g the food <strong>and</strong> beverage<br />

<strong>in</strong>dustry more efficient <strong>and</strong> successful <strong>in</strong> an effort to improve<br />

public health.<br />

Our stakeholder conven<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> March <strong>and</strong> December <strong>2015</strong><br />

focused on reduc<strong>in</strong>g obesity <strong>and</strong> non-communicable diseases<br />

(NCDs), among other issues. The work group comprised of<br />

topical experts <strong>and</strong> focused on work to support healthy diets<br />

<strong>and</strong> lifestyles, <strong>and</strong> identified how to advance responsible<br />

advertis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> promote practices to tackle NCDs.<br />

Our activities this year<br />

<strong>Nestlé</strong> contributes five <strong>commitments</strong> to the EU Platform for Action on Diet, Physical Activity <strong>and</strong><br />

Health, cover<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

• Reformulation of <strong>Nestlé</strong> products;<br />

• The <strong>Nestlé</strong> Healthy Kids Global Programme;<br />

• Portion guidance on all children’s <strong>and</strong> family products;<br />

• A consumer-fac<strong>in</strong>g education programme <strong>in</strong> Spa<strong>in</strong>; <strong>and</strong><br />

• The Workplace Wellness programme at <strong>Nestlé</strong>’s headquarters.<br />

In early <strong>2015</strong>, the IFBA Progress Report was sent to WHO Director-General Dr Margaret Chan.<br />

This is a follow-up to the <strong>commitments</strong> made <strong>in</strong> 2014 by the CEOs of lead<strong>in</strong>g food <strong>and</strong> non-alcoholic<br />

beverage companies <strong>and</strong> members of the IFBA (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Nestlé</strong>). These enhanced global<br />

<strong>commitments</strong> guide their companies’ health <strong>and</strong> wellness strategies over the next five years:<br />

• Reformulate foods <strong>and</strong> beverages <strong>and</strong> develop new products that support the goals of<br />

improv<strong>in</strong>g diets;<br />

• Provide clear <strong>and</strong> fact-based nutrition <strong>in</strong>formation to all consumers;<br />

• Extend responsible advertis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>and</strong> market<strong>in</strong>g to children globally; <strong>and</strong><br />

• Raise awareness on balanced diets <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>creased levels of physical activity.<br />

As a member <strong>and</strong> co-chair of the IFBA, we comply with its Global Policy on Advertis<strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong><br />

Market<strong>in</strong>g Communications to Children. We have also signed voluntary pledges on the market<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of foods to children cover<strong>in</strong>g more than 50 countries. For more <strong>in</strong>formation on this, please see the<br />
