We are develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>our</strong> environmental awareness programmes<br />
to foster a cont<strong>in</strong>uous improvement culture that delivers<br />
environmental susta<strong>in</strong>ability. In <strong>2015</strong>, environmental<br />
awareness tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g was conducted <strong>in</strong> 89 out of the 197<br />
countries where we operate, (reach<strong>in</strong>g 3968 employees). We<br />
plan to reach all countries of operation by 2016.<br />
More than 4000 employees have successfully completed<br />
<strong>our</strong> e-learn<strong>in</strong>g c<strong>our</strong>se this year, to enhance their knowledge<br />
<strong>and</strong> learn how to apply environmentally susta<strong>in</strong>able bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
practices. Our United Arab Emirates bus<strong>in</strong>ess won a <strong>2015</strong> prize<br />
for the highest proportion of participants.<br />
We held Environmental Susta<strong>in</strong>ability Leadership workshops<br />
<strong>in</strong> Australia, Brazil, Ch<strong>in</strong>a, Malaysia, Mexico, Panama, the<br />
Philipp<strong>in</strong>es, Spa<strong>in</strong>, Switzerl<strong>and</strong>, the United K<strong>in</strong>gdom, the United<br />
States <strong>and</strong> Venezuela. The one-<strong>and</strong>-a-half-day sessions enable<br />
<strong>our</strong> employees to share best practices, improv<strong>in</strong>g their<br />
underst<strong>and</strong><strong>in</strong>g of the challenges <strong>and</strong> external pressures fac<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>our</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess. The c<strong>our</strong>se helps us promote environmentally<br />
susta<strong>in</strong>able bus<strong>in</strong>ess practices, <strong>and</strong> helps <strong>our</strong> leaders apply policy<br />
requirements <strong>in</strong> daily activities. In Dubai, Mexico, Switzerl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
Malaysia, 49 of <strong>our</strong> tra<strong>in</strong>ers have also received tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Seven of <strong>our</strong> senior managers also had the opportunity to<br />
attend the Pr<strong>in</strong>ce of Wales’s Bus<strong>in</strong>ess & Susta<strong>in</strong>ability<br />
Programme at Cambridge University this year.<br />

Help<strong>in</strong>g tackle youth unemployment<br />
Accord<strong>in</strong>g to the ILO 5 , the worldwide unemployment rate<br />
among 15- to 24-year-olds is set to rise. It is currently almost<br />
three times higher than the unemployment rate for adults <strong>and</strong> it<br />
rema<strong>in</strong>s difficult for young people to f<strong>in</strong>d jobs <strong>in</strong> most countries.<br />
Help<strong>in</strong>g young people become better prepared to enter the<br />
professional world <strong>and</strong> to improve their chances <strong>in</strong> a challeng<strong>in</strong>g<br />
job market is one of the great public policy issues across the<br />
world today. We have <strong>in</strong>troduced specific <strong>commitments</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />
<strong>in</strong>itiatives to focus <strong>our</strong> work with two aims – to recruit <strong>and</strong><br />
develop the next generation of <strong>Nestlé</strong> leaders <strong>and</strong> to help young<br />
people with the transition from education to work.<br />
In <strong>2015</strong>, the <strong>in</strong>itiative was rolled out globally.<br />

By 2016 – <strong>Nestlé</strong> will offer 10 000 job opportunities <strong>and</strong><br />
10 000 tra<strong>in</strong>eeships or apprenticeships to young people<br />
below 30 years of age <strong>in</strong> Europe, to help tackle<br />
unemployment <strong>in</strong> this age group.<br />

Across Europe we have offered permanent <strong>and</strong> temporary<br />
positions to 6049 young people, meet<strong>in</strong>g <strong>our</strong> 2016 goal ahead<br />
of time, <strong>and</strong> strengthened apprenticeships <strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong>eeships.<br />
We have organised 1756 read<strong>in</strong>ess-for-work events (CV cl<strong>in</strong>ics,<br />
events <strong>in</strong> unemployment offices dur<strong>in</strong>g open days,<br />
participation at job fares <strong>and</strong> company <strong>in</strong>formation lectures),<br />
mobilis<strong>in</strong>g more than 5706 <strong>Nestlé</strong> employees. The <strong>Nestlé</strong><br />
needs YOUth programme was launched across <strong>our</strong> European<br />
markets <strong>in</strong> 2013 <strong>in</strong> Athens, Greece, to deliver a mix of jobs,<br />
apprenticeships <strong>and</strong> tra<strong>in</strong>eeship opportunities.<br />
The programme has received recognition <strong>in</strong> France <strong>in</strong> <strong>2015</strong>,<br />
receiv<strong>in</strong>g Diversity <strong>and</strong> Corporate Social Responsibility Awards<br />
from LSA magaz<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong> the Social Engagement category. We<br />
were also delighted to learn that this year, <strong>Nestlé</strong> has moved<br />
up <strong>in</strong> Europe’s Universum Student Surveys from Rank 11 to<br />
Rank 9 <strong>in</strong> the category Europe’s Most Attractive Employers –<br />
Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Student <strong>2015</strong>. The results are based on the<br />
responses of more than 168 000 undergraduate students.<br />
Our North–South solidarity programme offers students<br />
from southern European states the chance to take part <strong>in</strong><br />
operations’ apprenticeships or tra<strong>in</strong>eeships <strong>in</strong> other parts of<br />
Europe. Opportunities are organised <strong>in</strong> conjunction with local<br />
governments <strong>and</strong> employment offices. It enables young<br />
people to receive <strong>in</strong>-depth technical tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>and</strong> language<br />
tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g for their host country.<br />
For example, we provide apprenticeship opportunities <strong>in</strong> the<br />
Nescafé Dolce Gusto factory <strong>in</strong> Schwer<strong>in</strong>, Germany, to Spanish<br />
students, who get practical <strong>and</strong> vocational tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g at the site<br />
<strong>and</strong> the local vocational tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g at the school. The programme<br />
runs <strong>in</strong> partnership with the local government of Catalonia,<br />
Spa<strong>in</strong>, the Employment Office <strong>and</strong> the Chamber of Commerce<br />
<strong>and</strong> the EU’s EURES job portal.<br />
