Dr Hamid worked for ten strenuous years on the Philosophy of Translation that led him<br />

<strong>to</strong> the conclusion that no special training can help in the <strong>translation</strong> process. He agreed<br />

that it is done most of the time instinctively. Dr Attash holds that there is room for<br />

natural abilities <strong>to</strong> operate during the <strong>translation</strong> process but certain techniques are also<br />

required <strong>to</strong> be learned.<br />

Dr Naeem, however, vehemently asserts that <strong>translation</strong> cannot be done instinctively and<br />

supports his arguments on medical grounds. He even does not favor any special training,<br />

but thinks that sharing of experiences through workshops can help in producing better<br />

<strong>translation</strong>s and becoming better transla<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

9.2.3 THE ROLE OF THE TRANSLATOR<br />

The role of the transla<strong>to</strong>r as a media<strong>to</strong>r, a reconcilia<strong>to</strong>r, a crea<strong>to</strong>r, a co-crea<strong>to</strong>r or re-<br />

crea<strong>to</strong>r is yet another controversial area in Translation Studies.<br />

deems the transla<strong>to</strong>r as a re-crea<strong>to</strong>r and holds that a good crea<strong>to</strong>r can be a good<br />

transla<strong>to</strong>r that means transla<strong>to</strong>r has a paradoxical role: he is a writer and a transla<strong>to</strong>r at<br />

the same time.While Dr Attash Durrani also thinks the same and further adds that<br />

mediation is also part of recreation. However transla<strong>to</strong>r is also a re-writer. Dr Naeem<br />

once again asserts that the transla<strong>to</strong>r is just a media<strong>to</strong>r and cannot be a crea<strong>to</strong>r. On<br />

similar grounds he maintains that the transla<strong>to</strong>r is a simple transla<strong>to</strong>r and cannot be a<br />

writer. Dr Asif Furukhi holds that the transla<strong>to</strong>r can be both a complete writer and<br />

transla<strong>to</strong>r, at the same time. Dr Ikram Azam has suggested co-creativity as the<br />

transla<strong>to</strong>r’s task <strong>to</strong> recreate the original, caringly and carefully. As far as the task of the<br />

transla<strong>to</strong>r is concerned, all of them have underlined the same tasks as had already been<br />

mentioned in the Literature review<br />

and conclusion of the thesis .<br />

The borderlines of transla<strong>to</strong>r’s ‘freedom and limitation’ are determined by the transla<strong>to</strong>r<br />

himself, is what Dr Hamid holds. Dr Attash Durrani thinks that <strong>to</strong>tal freedom is only in<br />

journalistic <strong>translation</strong> and adaptation. Dr Naeem on the other hand, holds that it is the<br />

consideration of the audience/reader interest that enable the transla<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> determine his
