material with which they work; <strong>to</strong> understand what Language is and how it comes <strong>to</strong><br />

functions for its users.<br />

All these research endeavours need some platform, where all these efforts and directions<br />

are <strong>to</strong> be streamlined, standardised and energies channelised <strong>to</strong>wards singular goals,<br />

ultimately culminating in academic, and finally, in the national educational development.<br />

It is the establishment of Institutes that can provide the platforms for training transla<strong>to</strong>rs.<br />

Such scientific training will naturally include components of Workshops and Seminars as<br />

has been suggested by Dr Naeem Kalasra. After all Translation is a practical enterprise<br />

and not merely a theoretical exercise.<br />

In Pakistan, initial efforts in this regard can be made by introducing the discipline at the<br />

Post graduate level in the Department of Language, Literature and Humanities (FLL&H)<br />

in all the major Public Sec<strong>to</strong>r Universities. After basic orientation, efforts may be<br />

directed <strong>to</strong>wards setting up a separate Centre of Translation under the patronage of the<br />

same Department. Within the pedagogic framework of the International Islamic<br />

University (IIUI), the Women’s Campus, in particular, where the present researcher is<br />

currently employed, such centre can successfully function, at the Department of English.<br />

(FLL&H). The English Department has already launched a Translation program in the<br />

Centre of Basic Studies, which is at its very initial stages. At the Masters level the<br />

subject of Translation Skills is being introduced as only an optional subject. But the<br />

current study will surely provide strength <strong>to</strong> the existing programmes. It may help <strong>to</strong> set<br />

up a separate Translation Centre within the Department of English (LL&H). The<br />

suggested centre will also facilitate the teaching of Linguistics at the Graduate and Post-<br />

Graduate level, since Linguistics is a central subject in Translation studies. Linguistics is<br />

a discipline which studies Language in its own right and as a <strong>to</strong>ol for generating<br />

meanings. Therefore, it has a great deal <strong>to</strong> offer <strong>to</strong> the budding discipline of Translation<br />

Studies. It will certainly offer transla<strong>to</strong>rs valuable insight in<strong>to</strong> the nature and function of<br />

the Language, which is a pre-requisite for any transla<strong>to</strong>r in the world. This is particularly<br />

true of modern Linguistics, which no longer restricts itself <strong>to</strong> the study of language per<br />

se but embraces such disciplines as Text–Linguistics, Pragmatics, Psycho and Socio
