Macrobiotic diets resembles a Japanese diet, whereas the<br />

Esselstyn diet resembles an American diet.<br />

Use <strong>of</strong> local, seasonal foods: Macrobiotic diets<br />

emphasizes this somewhat more than the Esselstyn diet.<br />

Use <strong>of</strong> added oil: The Esselstyn diet strongly<br />

discourages this, whereas macrobiotic diets focuses more<br />

on the quality <strong>of</strong> the oil, but while still advising moderation<br />

in quantity, includes recipes for deep-fried foods (such as<br />

tempura).<br />

The term “macrobiotic diets” is short, whereas the term<br />

“whole-foods, plant based diet” is descriptive but too long,<br />
