499. GALLITZIN (GALICIN), Prince Dimitri Alexeiewitch - 21 Dec. 1738 - 21
March 1803 Brunswick. Russian ambassador at 's-Gravenhage 1768-1.782. Amateur
naturalist. Married to Adelheid Amalia von Schmettau (28 Aug. 1748 Berlin -
27 April 1806 MUnster, Westfalen). Princess Gallitzin was a close friend of
the Dutch philosopher Frans Hemsterhuis and played an important role in the
"Kreis von MUnster".
Their cabinet of natural history was sold at Amsterdam 28 April 1783 (Lugt
nr, 3563); G. Forster 1790: Ansichten von Holland ••• , II, p. 69 (esp. minerals);

Leiden. Pupil of Boerhaave. Town physician at Deventer (1720) and Amsterdam
(1727-1730). 1731 Prof. chem. Leiden; 1734-1775 Prof. med, Leiden; 1760-
1775 personal physician of the Prince of Orange. Author of the important
worlc 11 De Regimine Mentis" (1747, 2nd edition 1764) about psychosomatic aspects
of diseases.
Possessed a cabinet with many preparates of physiological and pathological
anatomy and objects of natural history, which was sold after his death, Vosmaer
1790 mentions its sale without giving a date. Houttuyn 1761-1773, XVII,
