March 1803 Brunswick. Russian ambassador at 's-Gravenhage 1768-1.782. Amateur<br />

naturalist. Married to Adelheid Amalia von Schmettau (28 Aug. 1748 Berlin -<br />

27 April 1806 MUnster, Westfalen). Princess Gallitzin was a close friend of<br />

the <strong>Dutch</strong> philosopher Frans Hemsterhuis and played an important role in the<br />

"Kreis von MUnster".<br />

Their cabinet of natural history was sold at Amsterdam 28 April 1783 (Lugt<br />

Leiden. Pupil of Boerhaave. Town physician at Deventer (1720) and Amsterdam<br />

(1727-1730). 1731 Prof. chem. Leiden; 1734-1775 Prof. med, Leiden; 1760-<br />

1775 personal physician of the Prince of Orange. Author of the important<br />

worlc 11 De Regimine Mentis" (1747, 2nd edition 1764) about psychosomatic aspects<br />

of diseases.<br />

Possessed a cabinet with many preparates of physiological and pathological<br />

anatomy and objects of natural history, which was sold after his death, Vosmaer<br />

1790 mentions its sale without giving a date. Houttuyn 1761-1773, XVII,<br />
