1 s-Hertogenbosch. 1755 Proponent at Well and Ammerzoden; 1769 Clergyman at<br />

's-Hertogenbosch; 1771 Professor at the Illustre and Latin school, 1 s-Hertogenbosch.<br />

Possessed a cabinet of divers naturalia, shells, fossils, corals, etc, The<br />

collection was sold 27 May 1782 at 1 s-Hertogenbosch (Boekh. nr. 459). At the<br />

"Provinciaal Genootschap" in 1 s-Hertogenbosch is a "Register van eenige<br />

waarnemingen, gedaan door J.C. Palier" a.o. about fossilised bones, found in<br />

1169. PALLAS, Peter Simon - 3 Oct. 1741 Berlin - 20 Sept. 1811 Berlin (data<br />

according to DSB). Natural scientist, geographer. Studied medicine at Halle,<br />

GOttingen and Leiden 1754-1759. Invited by Catharine II he went to St. Petersburg,<br />

where in 1767 he became ordinary Academician and in 1768 Professor<br />

of natural history.<br />

He took part in several scientific expeditions in European and Asiatic Russia<br />

from 1768 til 1774 and from 1793 till 1794, his main goal being the writing<br />

of a zoological geography of the Russian Empire. The results of these<br />

travels were published by the St. Petersburg Academy of Science: "Zoographia<br />

Rosso- Asiatica ••• " 1811-1831. During his stay in Holland and England between<br />

1761 and 1766 he studied a great many collections, writing several catalogues,<br />

some of which were published, Probably he also arranged the Zoophytes<br />

in the collection of the Prince of Orange. He records to have used<br />

the facilities provided by the collections of his friend Burman (q.v.). He<br />

is the author of a.o. "Elenchus Zoophytorum" and "Miscellanea Zoologica"<br />

April 1633 Enkhuizen. He studied medicine in Germany and visited several<br />

European countries, a.o. Lithuania and Poland in 1577. He then studied medicine<br />

in Italy. In 1578 he visited Syria, Israel and Egypt, in 1579 Rome, Naples<br />

en Maltha, In 1580 he became Dr. phil et med. at Padua University. Paludanus<br />

was court physician of the royal family Schonburg at Waldenburg. In
