Maastricht. Geologist and paleontologist.
He studied the stratigraphy of the calcareous layers and collected fossils
a.o. in the vicinity of Valkenburg and Maastricht. He already possessed a
collection of 650 specimens when he settled at Maastricht in 1866 as a representative
of the pharmaceutical company Hahmes. With his collection he
founded the Museum Ubaghs (1866-1894) at Maastricht, containing collections
in the fields of geology, paleontology, archeology, conchyliology and prehistory.
He was a collaborator of J. de Bosquet (q.v.). He published ca. 40
articles and he was also a dealer in fossils. His collection is dispersed in
all directions, fortunately an important part of it has been bought by the
Royal Nat. Hist. Museum at Brussels (Nat, Hist. Maandblad L, 1961, p. 72-

12 June 1890 Eenrum. Clergyman. He also was a distinguished draughtsman of
landscapes. He was the Founder and Director of the "Maatschappij voor landen
tuinbouw De Marne" at Wehe (q.v.), of which he became President. He was
also Director of the museum attached to it.
