Maastricht. Geologist and paleontologist.<br />

He studied the stratigraphy of the calcareous layers and collected fossils<br />

a.o. in the vicinity of Valkenburg and Maastricht. He already possessed a<br />

collection of 650 specimens when he settled at Maastricht in 1866 as a representative<br />

of the pharmaceutical company Hahmes. With his collection he<br />

founded the Museum Ubaghs (1866-1894) at Maastricht, containing collections<br />

in the fields of geology, paleontology, archeology, conchyliology and prehistory.<br />

He was a collaborator of J. de Bosquet (q.v.). He published ca. 40<br />

articles and he was also a dealer in fossils. His collection is dispersed in<br />

all directions, fortunately an important part of it has been bought by the<br />

Royal Nat. Hist. Museum at Brussels (Nat, Hist. Maandblad L, 1961, p. 72-<br />

12 June 1890 Eenrum. Clergyman. He also was a distinguished draughtsman of<br />

landscapes. He was the Founder and Director of the "Maatschappij voor landen<br />

tuinbouw De Marne" at Wehe (q.v.), of which he became President. He was<br />

also Director of the museum attached to it.<br />
