Hegenitius 1630, p. 139 (v. before 1627) saw 2 casuaries and other animals<br />

in the stables of the Stadholder in Rijswijk near 's-Gravenhage. The "Casuariestraat"<br />

at 's-Gravenhage is called after the casuaries which were kept by<br />

the Prince of Orange.<br />

In the "Atlas van Stolk" at Rotterdam is an etching by Chrispijn van de Queborn<br />

of a Casuaris which in 1616 was kept in the yard of the Count of Brederode<br />

(corner Toernooiveld and Houtstraat).<br />

Two travellers mention the existence of a museum in which were satyrs and<br />

sirens (Clausade 1835, p. 173 (v. 1834) and Arlincourt 1842, I, p. 300 (v.<br />

The Society "Diligentia" (founded 1793) once possessed a cabinet (see Hoeij,<br />

Corne lis van).<br />

The anatomical theatre was "annesso alla chiesa cattedrale" in 1669 (Hoogewerff<br />

1919, p. 309); Terwen 1855, p. 271: it was then in the Juffr. Idastraat.<br />

The zoological garden ("Koninklijk Zoologisch Botanisch Genootschap van Acclimatisatie"<br />
