Hegenitius 1630, p. 139 (v. before 1627) saw 2 casuaries and other animals
in the stables of the Stadholder in Rijswijk near 's-Gravenhage. The "Casuariestraat"
at 's-Gravenhage is called after the casuaries which were kept by
the Prince of Orange.
In the "Atlas van Stolk" at Rotterdam is an etching by Chrispijn van de Queborn
of a Casuaris which in 1616 was kept in the yard of the Count of Brederode
(corner Toernooiveld and Houtstraat).
Murray 1904, I, p. 147 quotes from Granger, Hist. of Engeland III, p. 402,
London 1779 and Lister, Journey to Paris, London 1823, p. 82: "The States of
Holland presented a collection to Charles II".
Thunberg 1792-1794, I, p. 19 visits 1770 the Hortus Medicus.
Two travellers mention the existence of a museum in which were satyrs and
sirens (Clausade 1835, p. 173 (v. 1834) and Arlincourt 1842, I, p. 300 (v.
1837)).
The Society "Diligentia" (founded 1793) once possessed a cabinet (see Hoeij,
Corne lis van).
The anatomical theatre was "annesso alla chiesa cattedrale" in 1669 (Hoogewerff
1919, p. 309); Terwen 1855, p. 271: it was then in the Juffr. Idastraat.
The zoological garden ("Koninklijk Zoologisch Botanisch Genootschap van Acclimatisatie"
