(q.v.) bequeathed a magnificent collection of the most beautiful shells and<br />

Possessed several estates in England, France, and North America. Had a menagerie<br />

on his estate "Groeneveld" (in Eemnes near Baarn), 1797-1835. This<br />

menagerie later came in the possession of J, Corn1Hy van Hemstra (q.v.).<br />

1704 Amsterdam. Burgomaster of Amsterdam 1666; Director of the <strong>Dutch</strong> East<br />

India Company; Commissioner of the Amsterdam Botanical Garden. Possessed the<br />

estate "Goudestein" near Maarssen.<br />

As one of the Lords Seventeen he was frequently presented with zoological<br />

curiosities alive or dead, i.a. from the Cape of Good Hope: canaries, geese,<br />

turtle doves, skins of wild cats, and rhinohorns (presented by Joan Bacx and<br />

Simon van der Stel); from Mauritius: fishes and a parrot (presented by Isaac
