the Royal <strong>Dutch</strong> Navy. Brother-in-law of Henri J. Gilhuys (q.v.).<br />

Collected Lepidoptera and shells on the islands of Timor, Cracatau, Bali,<br />

Lombok, Ternate, Tidore, etc. The shell collection came 1890 in the Zool.<br />

Mus. Amsterdam, the collection of Lepidoptera came 1902 in the RMNH. See<br />

also Gilhuys. Jutting 1939, p. 177.<br />

Prinsegracht near Vijzelstraat.<br />

According to Argenville (1742, p. 215-216) the cabinet of Rumphius came via<br />

Schijnvoet and Vincent Posthumus in the possession of the town of Amsterdam,<br />

but he corrected this in the later edition: 1780, p. 348, note. Argenville<br />

1757, p. 147; Lesser 1756, p. 80: Posthumus got the cabinet of his fatherin-law<br />

Schijnvoet: the catalogue of the shells (1744 Amsterdam) is quoted by<br />

Boehmer 1785, I, p. 394 (Vosmaer 1790), A second catalogue is mentioned by<br />

Cobres 1782, I, p. 131, and Murray 1904, I, p. 182; III, p. 167, dealing only<br />

with the minerals, fossils and stones, Jutting 1939, p. 229, 239.<br />

of the founders of the <strong>Dutch</strong> Malacological Society.<br />

Possessed a collection of shells, cf. Jutting 1939, p. 198. His collection<br />

of shells came into the possession of A.W. Arends (Nijmegen).<br />

Together with his brother W.J. Prick (Reno, Nevada, USA) he built up the so<br />

called "collection Prick". It consists of ca. 7,000 specimens of Lepidoptera<br />
