Groningen. Up to 1811 lawyer at Groningen. From 1795 onwards Secretary of
the Ommelanden. 1821-1831 substitute Judge, Later in his life historian and
town-archivist. Unmarried, brother of Petrus Driessen (q.v.).
Collection of fossils, stones, butterflies, in 1831 bequeathed to Univ. Groningen.

411. DROUIN, Jean Baptiste - Sedan - buried 19 Jan. 1792 Maastricht. Lieutenant-Colonel
in the French army.
Possessed a collection of well-preserved milleporine coelenterates, Madreporia,
Astroidea, Mollusca, Worms and Echinoidea and other remains of seacreatures
from the St. Pietersberg and from the surroundings of Maastricht,
all together ca. 600 species (van Marum 1790, p. 388). The collection also
contained fragments of 2 lower jaws and an upper jaw of Mosasaurus hoffmanni,
found 1766 in the St. Pietersberg (the oldest dated fragments of a Mosasaurus).
These remainders are now in Paris. Casts of them are in Teylers
Museum and in the Nat. Hist, Museum, Maastricht. Together with Th.J. Godding
(q.v.) he possessed the greatest part of the collection of J.L. Hoffmann
(q.v.). P. Camper visited the collection 1782 (see Kemp 1792). In 1784 the
collection was bought by M, van Marum (q.v.) for the museum of Teylers foundation
at Haarlem. It formed the basis of the Paleontological cabinet of the
