In 1844 he became an unofficial worker in the malacological collection<br />

of the Amsterdam Zool. Garden. He was appointed as curator in November 1854.<br />

In 1844 the Zool. Gardens bought his shell collection. He labelled the<br />

samples very accurately and kept a good catalogue, assisted by his son H.<br />

Oltmans. He published: "Lijst van voorwerpen in het Museum, d,d. 1 Mei 1863 11<br />

She possessed a collection of naturalia and of rarities. She bought the microscope<br />

of Lyonet (q.v.) and bequeathed it to her brother Abraham Oltmans<br />

(q.v.). The microscope is now in "Artis". Jutting 1939, p. 168: the important<br />

collection of shells of miss M.E.A. Oltmans in the Hague purchased from<br />

her brother Mr. A, Oltmans on May 1st, 1844 seems to have perished, unless<br />

Possessed a collection of Coleoptera (100 species, 6000 ex.), bugs, Odonata<br />

and bumblebees. The greatest part of the collection is still in the possession<br />

of his widow, but not in a good condition, a part is given away (personal<br />

His cabinet (a.o. human and animal skulls) was sold 6 Nov. 1878 at Amsterdam:<br />

"Catalogue d 'une collection importante d' objets d 'histoire naturelle et<br />

d'instruments d'astronomie et de geodesie delassee ••• "; this catalogue also<br />

includes the collection of A.B. Medenbach de Rooy (q.v.) and of Mr. A.<br />
