Etats Gemfraux des Provinces Unies"; "Secretaris van de Rekenkamer" (Secretary<br />

of the Audit office); naturalist.<br />

Possessed a large and precious cabinet of shells, insects and other naturalia,<br />

and also a collection of pictures. His cabinet was first offered for<br />

sale in one lot for Dfl. 22,000.-- by the executors of the testament Mr.<br />

van der Meersch and Mr. Croiset (heir) (see Bibl, Sc. 1790, Oct.-Dec). Then<br />

it was publicly sold at 's-Gravenhage 21 April 1796 seq. (Catalogue in "Artis"<br />

nr. 3258; Murray 1904, II, p. 361; Lugt nr. 5400). See also D. Tobias<br />

(q.v.). The collection only contained 41 numbers of insects from abroad,<br />

among which were 8 Lepidoptera. The collection also contained 1,283 nrs. of<br />

de la Chenille qui ronge le bois de saule" (1760), of which he himself engraved<br />

Mus. Boerhaave. Ms. and plates of his posthumous work were edited by W. de<br />

Haan (1832) under the title: Recherches sur 1' anatomie et les metamorphoses
