Lawyer and translator, "Secretaire des Chiffres de L.H.P, les Seigneurs
Etats Gemfraux des Provinces Unies"; "Secretaris van de Rekenkamer" (Secretary
of the Audit office); naturalist.
Possessed a large and precious cabinet of shells, insects and other naturalia,
and also a collection of pictures. His cabinet was first offered for
sale in one lot for Dfl. 22,000.-- by the executors of the testament Mr.
van der Meersch and Mr. Croiset (heir) (see Bibl, Sc. 1790, Oct.-Dec). Then
it was publicly sold at 's-Gravenhage 21 April 1796 seq. (Catalogue in "Artis"
nr. 3258; Murray 1904, II, p. 361; Lugt nr. 5400). See also D. Tobias
(q.v.). The collection only contained 41 numbers of insects from abroad,
among which were 8 Lepidoptera. The collection also contained 1,283 nrs. of
