cf. Amsterdamsche Saturdagsche Courant 15 Aug. 1750. His literary inheritance<br />

982. MARCUS, Paul - Amsterdam. "Materialiste". Son-in-law of Albertus Seba,<br />

p. 73. This is probably a mistake, for Seba had a son in law named Jacob<br />

(Jan) Marcus (q.v.), but not Paul, see Engel, in: Svenska Linne-Salsk • .l!.rsskrift<br />

983. MARETS, Daniel de - 1635 Maastricht - 1714 Honselaarsdijk. 1655 clergyman<br />

of the Wallonian Church at Groningen; 1656 Middelburg; 1662 at the<br />

French Church at 's-Gravenhage. In 1685 Stadholder William III offered him<br />

an estate at the House "Honsholredijk", where he became Praefectus Horti and<br />

also Librarian of the Royal Library. At "Honsholredijk" he occupied himself<br />

with literary studies.<br />

He possessed a cabinet of insects, reptiles in liquor, etc. sold 8 June<br />

1716 at Leiden (Boekh.). Uffenbach 1754, p. 373 (v. 1710) (lived at 's Gravesande<br />

3 hours from 's-Gravenhage); Valentijn 1726, III, p. 652; 1754, p.<br />

984. MARGUERITE OF AUSTRIA (Marguerite of Savoy) - 10 Jan. 1480 Brussels -<br />

27 Nov. or 1 Dec. 1530 Mechlin). Daughter of the Emperor Maximilian and Mary<br />

of Burgundy. In 1495 she married Don Juan of Castile, the Spanish Prince<br />

Royal, who died in 1497; in 1501 she married Philibert of Savoy, who died in<br />

1504. In 1507 she became regentess of the Netherlands.<br />

She lived at Mechlin, where she possessed a famous menagerie and a cabinet.<br />
